Way back in September at "Back-to-School Night" H's teacher said that if any parent would like to spend a day in the classroom with their child they were more than welcome to do so. Little did I know that, not only was H listening, but that WEEKS later H would be asking me when I was going to spend the day at school with her. I had completely forgotten that her teacher had mentioned that little tidbit and H reminded me and insisted I spend the day with her. Realizing that life goes by way too fast and that much sooner, than I care to admit, she will probably not want to spend a whole lot of time with me; I quickly emailed her teacher and we came up with a date that was suitable for both of our crammed schedules.
The day did not start off well. I woke up with a splitting headache and was popping Excedrin Migraine BEFORE 6:30 a.m. This is not the way one wants to begin their day when faced with the task of hanging out with a classroom full of first graders for the day. Luckily my headache bid farewell by the time we began our day.
The day began in the gym with all Kindergarten, first and second grade students. Whew . . . they are loud.
Then we headed to her room and the day of academics commenced. The day was hopping. There was not a moment of down time. Before I knew it we were ready to embark upon recess # 1 of 3. Let me tell you . . . I was a bit frightened at this event. The inmates were most definitely running the asylum. I mean to tell you . . . it was nothing like anything I have ever experienced in my life. I fielded all kinds of questions from the kids. They were hilarious. Then we went back inside for more studies. Soon, it was lunchtime. I am not sure I have ever had to inhale my lunch in such a record short amount of time. If I had that lunch schedule everyday I can assure you I'd be about 20 pounds lighter . . . hmmmm . . . maybe I should visit school more often. Then after lunch it was another visit to the insane asylum known as recess. Then we headed back indoors for more learning. Then back out for recess #3 and then before I knew it, it was 2:15 and time for H and I to head to her eye doctor appointment.
I truly had no idea as to what to expect before I went to school with H. But, once I got there I absolutely loved it. I never dreamed I'd have so much fun with H at school. I absolutely loved seeing how she spends her days and I gained a greater appreciation for not only her teacher, but the entire school staff. And the kids . . . I had so much fun getting to know H's friends. I found out her 2 best buds celebrate their birthday the day before mine :) That just cracked those girls up. I told them I was just a little older than they are and they said, "Yeah, we know." Well, thanks girls! I loved being able to help H's teacher and help the children with their schoolwork throughout the day. It was so sweet to hear the kids ask if I was coming back. I would go back a lot more if my schedule permitted. I was asked by H's teacher to help out at a party next Friday and I do believe I will be there. I want to enjoy every moment of the kid's lives. This was a day I will not soon forget!
Following my day at school and H's eye doctor appointment I ran to K's school to pick her up and to pick up the subs she sold for her band camp. Then "Meals on Wheels" was off and running for the evening. THANK YOU to everybody who bought a sub and/or sandwich from K. She sold 30 sandwiches/subs and raised $150 to put toward her band trip this Spring. I will be attending her next band meeting to get some clarification on her band trip. There are some issues I am unsure about so I may as well attend a meeting and hear the info first hand.
Also, THANK YOU mom and Angie for saving the "Box Tops for Education" for Miss Hannah. She had 470 box tops! That means she gets $4.70 to spend at the school store, "The LIttle Tepee". I will let you know if her class wins the pizza party!
I am off now to pick up 500 Q-tips that the Hannanator knocked on the bathroom floor. She picked them off the floor, but now they are all over a shelf in the bathroom closet. Kids!
